A simple recipe for crisp baked tofu, perfect as a snack, side dish, or addition to a main meal. Tofu is pressed, cubed, tossed in a savory marinade with cornstarch, and then baked until golden and crispy.
1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Slice tofu in half down the middle to create two rectangles and place on a cutting board (or plate) lined with 4 sheets of paper towel (or a clean towel); place 4 more sheets of paper towel on top and then cover with another heavy cutting board or plate with something heavy placed on top; let drain for 30 minutes, blot off any excess moisture and then slice the tofu into even cubes (I sliced each rectangle into 12 cubes).
3. Transfer the tofu into a bowl and toss with the sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; once mixed add the cornstarch and toss until evenly coated.
4. Spread onto the baking sheet in one layer (make sure the tofu is evenly spaced out / not touching) and bake for 15 minutes, flip and then bake for another 10-15 minutes (or longer depending on your oven) until deep golden brown.
5. Let cool for a few minutes to further crisp up and then eat as is or serve with sweet chili sauce - enjoy!
